Iréne is Isolda. A superb characterization. This is what Iréne Theorin demonstrates with an exceptional empathy and knowledge of the classic masterpiece. So the audience at the Gran Teatre del Liceu recognizes with an unprecedented ardent zeal. In private, the Swedish singer, extremely professional and close, speaks unreservedly about her performance in the wonderful mise en scene by Àlex Ollé (La Fura dels Baus). This production has been welcomed with enthusiasm and success since last December, on the grounds of its dazzlingly striking aesthetic: the spherical mass approaching the characters, from above, on the first act, ends up becoming their small room, the world in which all the Love episodes between Tristan and Isolde take place, under the unforgiving effect of the filter. On its third movement, from the oculus of this inverted vault -like a lunar satellite, after its rotation- a final eternal light is projected on the lovers. Iréne triumphs over Isolde. Passionate also on her human side, the soprano does not hesitate to share her love story with Barcelona.
